Growing up along the California coastline, the ocean has always been a huge part of my life. As a child, it was my playground as I chased waves and explored tidepools. As an adult, surfing was not just my alternative gym membership, but a place of solace and meditation. Most importantly, the ocean taught me to be aware of myself, my surroundings, and to have a deep curiosity and respect for all life.
Earning my BFA in painting, I read scientific papers to inform my wall-sized acrylic paintings addressing tough environmental issues like shark-finning and climate change. During my Masters in Environmental Arts & Humanities, I explored how artists and scientists can collaborate on environmental issues. Both fields are steeped in observation, using different tools and methods to know the world. Together they make a complete picture.
The work I present here as a Featured Artist is meant to inform and inspire us about the beauty, mystery, and majesty of the sea. If you'd like to see more of my work, please visit me at tapfineart.com.
